Chapter 490: Kindergarten Begins

As the most remarkably accomplished young man in Pengcheng City—even in the entire Heavenly Dynasty [天朝] era—Mei Fang naturally put considerable thought into selecting a kindergarten.

Whether it was the teaching environment or the qualifications of the teachers, Mei Fang wanted his daughters to attend the very best kindergarten.

However, after preliminary visits and learning about numerous kindergartens’ setups, the Mei-You-Xia trio ultimately did not choose those exorbitantly priced elite private kindergartens.

Elite private kindergartens focused on small-class teaching, with fewer than 10 children per class. While fewer children might make parents feel the teachers could attend to each one better, this also limited the children’s range of social interactions.

Elite private kindergartens also had extremely packed curricula. Bilingual education was just the baseline—subjects ranged from scientific research, sports, archaeology, to programming, covering every esoteric field imaginable.

Though the kindergarten principals were brimming with confidence about their teaching content, Mei Fang nearly fainted just hearing about it.

“I started learning programming in elementary school precisely so my daughter wouldn’t suffer like I did. And now you’re telling me my three-year-old has to learn programming, piano, and even golf?”

Mei Fang was so incensed he almost wanted to whack the principal’s head with a golf club to teach him what true insanity felt like.

Having grown up in the small county of Baimei, the Mei-You-Xia trio certainly wanted their children to have better lives—but that didn’t mean the kids had to become exceptionally talented or outstanding individuals.

They just needed to live happily and joyfully their whole lives.

Of course, this didn’t mean the children could remain naively innocent forever either.

“The reason Yuan Yuan can stay so pure even after having kids is inseparable from my meticulous protection as her husband!”

After much deliberation, Mei Fang finally chose Meicun Kindergarten, a top-ranked public kindergarten in Pengcheng that was also close to home, as the educational institution for Mei Xiaoyuan and Mei Zhixi.

Mei Fang, Mei Xiaoyuan, and Mei Zhixi all felt an immediate affinity upon seeing the kindergarten’s name. As a provincial exemplary kindergarten, Meicun Kindergarten’s teaching environment and faculty quality were first-rate in Pengcheng—so much so that ordinary families would find it difficult to enroll their children there.

Additionally, Meicun Kindergarten had another advantage: its secluded, tranquil environment, far from the noisy city center.

This way, the children could breathe more fresh air from nature while also avoiding the excessive attention the Mei-You-Xia trio would attract if spotted together in public.

Ever since Mei Fang stepped back from the spotlight and Xia Yuan focused on being a virtual streamer, their current peaceful life had become incredibly precious—something to be cherished.

Meicun Kindergarten maintained a healthy teacher-student ratio, with about 20 children per class, supervised by 3 teachers and 2 childcare workers.

On the first day of school, the Mei family arrived early to complete enrollment. Though they had already toured Meicun Kindergarten once before, Mei Xiaoyuan was still buzzing with excitement, darting around to explore until she momentarily disappeared from sight.

“Little Yuanbao, Little Xixi, do you remember what your mommies told you?”

Mei Xiaoyuan and Mei Zhixi nodded in succession. Mei Xiaoyuan cleared her throat and recited earnestly:
“First, listen to the teachers and be good children.”

Mei Zhixi added softly,
“Be good children who don’t cry or fuss.”

Mei Xiaoyuan continued,
“Be friendly with the other kids and don’t get into fights.”

Mei Zhixi echoed,
“Get along with everyone.”

Mei Xiaoyuan pondered, then added,
“Protect my little sister and don’t let her get bullied.”

Mei Zhixi mumbled,
“Listen to Jiejie’s words.”

“Ah, you don’t have to listen to me, Little Xixi. At kindergarten, don’t call me ‘Jiejie.’”

After this reminder, Mei Xiaoyuan herself paused, realizing something.
“Right, at school I can’t call you ‘Little Xixi’ either. We’re classmates now.”

“Then… what should I call Jiejie?”

This was the first time Mei Zhixi learned she couldn’t address her sister so familiarly. Though she wasn’t overly clingy to her sister, the thought of not being able to rely on calling her “Jiejie” at kindergarten made her uneasy.

“Call me Mei Xiaoyuan—my full name. I’ll call you Mei Zhixi, just like everyone else. We can’t act special.”

Mei Xiaoyuan smiled.
“We can’t be exclusive.”

“Mm, okay…”

Though only two months older, Mei Xiaoyuan lecturing her little sister Mei Zhixi made her seem at least two years more mature.

“They’re practically carbon copies of us back in kindergarten.”

Lin Youxi chuckled to Xia Yuan.
“I was always glued to your back then too.”

“Haha… I do remember that! I had to help you with all the crafts—you were so clumsy back then…”

Mei Fang then crouched down, taking Mei Zhixi’s chubby little hand and placing it in her sister’s.

“Little Xixi, remember—no matter what, if you miss Mommy and Daddy or feel upset, you can always tell your sister. The same goes for you, Yuanbao… You’re family. When facing difficulties, you should face them together.”

“But Teacher Bubble on TV said we shouldn’t form cliques in kindergarten.”

Mei Xiaoyuan said seriously.
“We should communicate more with teachers and classmates and solve problems together through cooperation.”

“Hah… You’ve really absorbed a lot, huh?”

Mei Fang patted Mei Xiaoyuan’s head.
“What Daddy means is, your sister is a bit shy. She might not dare to tell the teacher if something’s wrong, but she can tell you. You’re the superhero who protects everyone, so you’ll be a caring big sister too, right?”

“Yes, yes! I’ll protect everyone—especially my little sister! Daddy, you can count on me!”

Mei Xiaoyuan tightly grasped Mei Zhixi’s hand. Then, under the teachers’ guidance, the sisters entered the classroom properly hand-in-hand.

Watching this sweet scene, Mei Fang couldn’t help but muse:

“People say sisters close in age often fight for attention, but our daughters seem to get along pretty well?”

“Usually, conflicts arise from unequal distribution.”

Lin Youxi paused.
“Like accusing parents of favoritism—only doting on the younger sister, giving the best things to the older sister, making the younger wear hand-me-downs…”

“Luckily, we’re well-off enough not to worry about that.”

Xia Yuan said softly.
“I wouldn’t want to only wear hand-me-downs either. And the older sister would resent always having to ‘give in’ to the younger…”

“Little Yuanbao has a good temperament and doesn’t compete, plus the sisters like different things, so they don’t interfere with each other.”

Mei Fang watched as the children gradually settled into the classroom. Mei Xiaoyuan sat properly, attentively watching the teacher, while Mei Zhixi—like most other kids—kept glancing out the window to check if her parents were still there.

After confirming that her father and two mothers were indeed still watching, Mei Zhixi gradually adapted to the classroom rhythm. Though initially uneasy, when another child suddenly burst into loud wails, instead of joining the crying like others, her expression grew oddly calm.

Perhaps her sister’s example was already influencing her?

Thanks to their financial freedom granting them ample free time, Mei Fang, Xia Yuan, and Lin Youxi lingered long after other parents had left, observing their daughters through the window—until the teachers finally shooed them away.

Even after being chased off, the trio didn’t leave immediately but wandered around the kindergarten grounds.

“If only we had this many toys to play with when we were kids!”

Xia Yuan sighed nostalgically on a seesaw.
“Big-city life really is more comfortable…”

Mei Fang then sat on the other end of the seesaw, giving a slight push to start playing with Xia Yuan.

“Ah… now there’s no spot for me.”

“Youxi wants to play too? Hold on—”

Mei Fang braked with his feet, gesturing for Lin Youxi to join.

Lin Youxi promptly settled onto Mei Fang’s lap, leaving Xia Yuan petrified.

“Youxi… what’s the meaning of this?”

“Oh… I just wanted to sit in Ah Fang’s lap while playing. Not because your side has higher weight distribution.”

“You said it out loud! That’s exactly what you meant, isn’t it?!”

Their playful bickering on the seesaw eventually drew scolding from a school security guard.

“Which parents are you?! Don’t break the kindergarten equipment—get, get out!”

And so, the three troublemakers were expelled from Meicun Kindergarten.

Having been kicked out mid-fun and even mocked by Youxi, Xia Yuan—still miffed—hired a craftsman to install a seesaw in their spacious backyard that very day.

Now they could play to their hearts’ content, anytime.
